It is a matter of great satisfaction to all of us that Patent Gurukul® has successfully completed its 2nd batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Patent Law & Practice with 22 participants and 3rd batch is in progress with 20 participants.

It is heartening to see that Gurukul alumini are taking great strides in the field of patents and finding fruitful positions in corporate world and in patent practice and as patent professionals.

India is poised to emerge as the Intellectual Capital of the world, with its growing young and technically qualified human capital. The need of the hour is, however, to provide opportunity for learning knowledge management and more particularly Patent Laws and other forms of Intellectual properties. This will enable to enhance value-creation and value-extraction, which is essential for Asset-building and higher economic outcomes.

Transformation of India into a global competitive player has exposed our knowledge based industries towards new opportunities and high risks with innovation as a key ingredient of success and patent as a tool for market capture and dominance. These innovations (with inherent risks) require a convergence of law, science and management to constantly compete and act at par with rivals. This creates an urgent and increasing need of Patent professionals (engineers and scientists), patent analysts (for competitive and technological intelligence) and patent lawyers to scrutinize and mitigate the risks involved in these emerging sunrise industries.

Except in the field of Patents, India is reasonably well-placed in other forms of Intellectual property, both in proficiency as well as enforcement. In Patents, however, there is many a "Myth" and misinformation leading to inadequate exploitation of creative opportunities in research and innovation.

Patent Gurukul® is a first of its kind endeavor to congregate law, science and management to unleash the patent realm providing the most awaited and much needed interface between industry and academia.

Patent Gurukul® is headed by Dr. Gopakumar G. Nair, who has nearly 40 years industry experience and has overviewed and interacted during the Uruguay Round and the birth of WTO and TRIPs. Dr. Nair is registered Patent and trademark agent. The Director of the Patent Gurukul® is Dr. Kausalya Santhanam, a biotechnologist and a US Patent Agent, who has established herself as a Patent Consultant and Practitioner in India. We are ably supported by visiting faculties both from India and overseas and also by young and vibrant IP Lawyers.
